Bodacious Blake makes the Gwindy Quake!!

Bodacious Blake makes the Gwindy Quake!

Cobras 31- 0 Dowlais

Not quite the torrential rain of last week….but, another game in the lovely Caerphilly weather.

Today we welcome Dowlais, legendary home of ironworking back in the day.

Interestingly, Dowlais play their home games at the Klondyke…they will be hoping to find Golden rugby in the hills of Caerphilly today.

First half:  Cobras 17-0 Dowlais

The cobras flew out of the blocks, scoring their fastest try of the season:  Dowlais kicked off, the ball was caught by King Keagan and he beat a succession of defenders to score with the clock showing ten seconds……

To be fair, Dowlais regrouped and battled hard after that, the conditions were awful and the ball was like a giant bar of soap that had been dipped in oil and covered over with ice that only forms on Penyrheol hill in January.

In these conditions both sides dropped the ball continuously, making it difficult to build momentum.

Blake, who was superb today, held on to a pass and ran strongly into the corner to grab a second try for the Cobras, he’s one of our most consistent players.

The half ended as they often do, with an incredible run from the Elvis of the valleys, Shane, who picked the ball up in our own half and glided insouciantly past the entire Dowlais team, a shimmy here, a swerve there and he’s through and under the posts.
Ollie converts.

Second half:  Cobras 31-0 Dowlais

This half was a joy…for any scrum connoisseurs out there. Stop start due to the succession of knock ons and unfortunately Dowlais picking up injuries (we hope all are soon on the mend).

As we approached the end of the game, the Cobras finally caught fire and appropriately produced some fireworks in the last five minutes..Jac G produced a combination of side stepping and sprinting that reminded many in the crowd of a young Gerald Davies to go under the posts. Ollie converted.

Finally, Shane produced a carbon copy of his first try to end proceedings, how do you tackle this lad? Ollie grabbing the extras to end the scoring for the day.

A difficult game in the conditions today, we must be due a dry one next week…

Love and Hisses 🐍 🏉 💚

King Cobra

Was Blake, for an all action performance that contained some strong runs, some great tackling, including one crunching hit that could be heard in the wilds of castle view, all topped off with a lovely try.

Well played indeed!
