Wham, Bam Quadruple Cam!

Wham, Bam Quadruple Cam!

We welcome our friends from Beddau today for the first game of 2024.

For the first time in many months, the Cobras are at full strength and will be wanting to start the new year well, however a very strong Beddau side will  be looking to stop that.

Beddau have a rich rugby history,  with former British Lions Steve Fenwick, Michael Owen and Gethin Jenkins all ex players, as well as numerous Welsh internationals.

A special get well soon from all the Cobras to our current Youth player Rhodri, who was injured yesterday, we are all thinking of you mate,  rest up and recover well.

First half:  Cobras 5-7 Beddau

This was a tough first half for the Cobras, as an excellent Beddau side largely dominated proceedings.  Beddau have a powerful pack and were on top in the scrum and added to that with a strong mauling game.
Their first try was a powerful effort from their forwards, the cobras were caught offside and from the resulting penalty, they broke free from a maul and powered over.
They add the extras with an excellent conversion from wide out.

The Cobras stayed in the game, battling hard and last ditch tackles stopped Beddau adding to the score.. But then..the ball is picked up by Cam, who starts this new year as he left the last, in sensational form, he sets sail for the try line and is too fast and powerful for the chasing defenders.
Harry just misses the conversion and the half time whistle blows.

Second Half:  Cobras 38-21 Beddau

People often talk about “a game of two halves”, this is what they mean…

This was the team talk of all time…as the Cobras come to life, they shook off their rustiness and played some superb rugby, keeping the ball away from the big Beddau forwards.

Harry Evs carries well into the Beddau half, beating lots of would be tacklers,  before recycling the ball to Shane who’s too quick and skilful for the defenders, great try.  Harry J converts.

Beddau fight back and a good move sees them well inside our half, before a knock on falls for Cam who goes almost the length of the pitch to score under the posts, incredible play. Harry J converts.

Moments later, Luke the rhino does what he does best, charging down the wing, leaving would be tacklers on the ground, before cutting in under the posts, it would have been easier tackling a certain Mr J. Lomu in 1995 than Luke in 2024….Harry J converts.

Capping off an incredible few minutes, Cam gets his hat trick with another long range try, he’s unplayable in this form.  Harry J unlikely strikes the post with his conversion.

Huge credit to Beddau, they respond to this barrage of Cobra tries with two well taken tries of their own. Both tries come from line outs near our line, their forwards are so hard to stop when they get rumbling.  Both tries are converted from wide out by their excellent fly half, this is a very strong side.

There is just time for one more try, fittingly it’s another one for Cam, his fourth of the game, incredible stuff.  He was brilliant today and it was noticeable that he could also be heard loudly praising his team mates for good tackles and good runs too. Harry J converts and time is up.

Players of the match

Were Luke in the forwards, for a strong game up against difficult opposition, hard running and tackling, capped off with a superb try, whilst in the backs it was non pariel Cam for an incredible game, notching four tries against a strong tackling team.
