Cobras lose another close one!

Cobras lose another close one!

We welcome our friends from Tremorfa today, as the buns pay us a rare visit over the mountain.
St Albans are always competitive, no matter the age grade, one of their famous old boys being the legendary Jim Sullivan.
A spate of late injuries meant we only had a bare 15, huge thanks to the boys that played out of position at prop, second row and number 8.  And special mention to Jac G who bravely turned up with his sore leg.

First half:  cobras 7-7 Buns

The weather was beautiful again today, driving rain arcing under parents umbrellas…but neither side seemed to mind..The Buns had a huge pack of forwards and dominated at ruck time today, whenever we ran with the ball, it was inevitably turned over or we were penalised for holding on.

Injuries meant we probably fielded the smallest scrum anywhere in under 13s rugby today, against one of the biggest, but we held our own throughout the game, probably edging that battle.

Luke is running really well and making inroads every time he has the ball, whilst Jack S is always lively in the backs. Shane picks the ball up in the buns half and heads for the try line, history tells us that he’s as difficult to tackle as an eel coated in Teflon and he’s away to score.  Harry J converts.

The Buns pack keep the game close though, and they score to level up, it’s converted by their excellent fly half.

Second half:  Cobras 14-17 Buns

The Cobras make a strong start to the half, Harry J  is bravely playing on the front foot, he’s getting clattered a lot, but freeing up our backs to make ground. We camp on the Buns line for a while before Luke the charging rhino powers over to score, he’s been superb again this match, fit fast and strong 💪. Harry J converts.

The Buns come back strongly again, we are penalised in their half and a succession of further penalties have them on our line, where they power over to score a converted try.

Our inability to make subs is costing us now and we tire, their big pack pick and go, marching down the pitch, we hold on and drive their tackler into touch.

With time up, we maul from the lineout before releasing Luke to make ground, but the ref calls us for holding on under pressure and St Albans keen for the win take the penalty.   It’s over and the ref blows up and both teams shake hands.

A late loss for the Cobras, against an excellent Buns side, but what a performance in the circumstances, well played both sides. 👏

Player of the match

Was Harry J, for a fearless performance at fly half, kept us on the front foot and kicked beautifully in the most trying of conditions. Well played indeed

Love and hisses
