Cobras win a tight one!

It was great to welcome the steel boys of Ebbw Vale to the Gwyndy today, always a close match when these two teams play.

Once again we have a string of injuries today, footie is such a dangerous sport….

First half: Cobras 17-7 Ebbw Vale

We came out of the traps like Mick the Miller in the 3.20 at Wimbledon… Shane scores one of his ridiculously brilliant tries, running from way inside our own half, he’s tackled eventually, but gets up again to go on and score, kicking the conversion himself, he’s a multitasking maestro…

We are straight on the attack, another strong run has us camped near their line and tackling a charging Rhino would be preferable to stopping Luke in full flight, he crashes over.

There is the odd game, where Cam doesn’t score, but it isn’t going to be this one… he’s too fast and too strong for the opposition and goes over in the corner for our third try.

Before half time though, a string of Ebbw penalties get them down the pitch and they crash over for a good try, which is beautifully converted.

Second half: Cobras 17-14 Ebbw

It’s difficult to say much about the second half, we really struggled to get going at all, falling foul of constant penalties at scrum time, line out and around the ruck area.

Ebbw scored their second try, after a succession of penalties saw them close to our line, with their big forward going over. A well struck conversion saw the margin reduced to three.

There was one magical moment….Ebbw broke free and one of their speedsters set sail for the line…Shane chased and chased..catching the opposing player right on the line and causing the ball to be knocked on. An incredible match saving effort 👏

Ebbw continued to push for a winning score, but we defended solidly, tackling bravely until a blast on the refs whistle signalled the end of the game.

Both teams played this game in good spirit, good to see the respect for each other at the end.
