Special “Sam” K takes the day!

Special “Sam” K takes the day!

A battle of the Caers today, as we give a big welcome to our old friends from the legion.
Great to welcome Cam and Harry back from injury, as we look to continue our run of good form.
A huge thank you to Kody, for reffing today at short notice, let’s hope he brings the same astute game management as his Dad always does. (I’ll have the fiver later Wayne)

First half: Cobras 12-0 Caerleon

We scored within the first minute, Jac G scorching through the muddy ground before being stopped just short of the line, where the ball was recycled to Harry Jelfs, who cleverly went over under the posts.
Harry J converted.

Any thoughts of a comfortable morning, were soon extinguished though.  The conditions were less than ideal, with driving rain getting under my umbrella and soaking me, urm, I mean with driving rain making it extremely difficult for us to hold on to the ball leading to most opportunities ending with a knock on.

When we did make a break, Caerleon were picking off isolated runners and turning the ball over, whilst our Achilles heel of giving away too many penalties surfaced again too.

Shane scored our second try, with one of his trademark runs, he’s an absolute nightmare for opposing defenders. Missed conversion.

Second Half: Cobras 31-0 Caerleon

The second half was very similar to the first half, for the opening ten minutes, but the rain stopped and then..bang.. Rhys Samuel picked the ball up in our own 22, burst through some tacklers, found himself in open space and was gone.. What a fantastic try! Harry J converted.

Moments later, Cam did the same thing, fending off opponents galore before going in under the posts for a stunning finish, welcome back!  Harry J converted.

Caerleon were reeling now, when they attacked, they found the returning Snowy, King of the Jacklers, giving them some of their own medicine, he’s a turnover machine.  Not content with that, he went on a long mazy run, fending off tacklers before being tackled. The ball was recycled, went through the hands and Jac G finished the move.
Harry J missed a difficult conversion.

Caerleon played very well this game, the score doesn’t reflect this fairly enough. For the rest of the half they hammered away, but weren’t the first team this season, to be denied by our resolute defence.

A final tackle and Kody blows his whistle, he’s put in an exemplary performance with the whistle and is thanked by both sides for his efforts.

Player of the Match

Was Sam K for putting in a superb shift in the engine room, in difficult conditions.. Hitting rucks like a Sherman tank, carrying ball like a young Billy Bilton and being the architect of some clever set piece returns.  Well played indeed Sam!

Love and hisses
