Sensational Shane strikes as Cobras win again!

Cobras 35-0 Bargoed

The Cobras welcomed Bargoed to the gwyndy, with a tough challenge expected. Bargoed have several district players in the line up, including last seasons back of the year, no doubt they have made the trip down the valley looking for revenge after our early season victory.

First half:  Cobras 21-0 Bargoed

The early stages saw the teams sparring with each other, like the opening rounds of a boxing contest. Indeed, it was ten minutes before the first chance was created…but that first chance saw a wonderful try scored by Cole: picking the ball up a long way out, he scorched the earth with his pace and chucked in a couple of lovely sidesteps for good measure to go over, we really do have an incredible set of lightning quick, try scoring backs.  Harry gets the extras.

Bargoed have some big strong forwards, but they keep getting isolated and picked off by our jacklers, against a different team they would have wreaked havoc to be fair.

The game was so close, that some parents might have had suspicious minds about whether we’d score again in the half, but one player was always on our minds:  The Elvis of the valleys, picked up the ball in his own half and pretty soon Bargoed were all shock up, with a shake of the hips he sent two defenders the wrong way, before gliding through a few more to touch down under the posts. I guess that’s just the wonder of Shane. Harry converted.

Was the King holding court today?  Indeed he was…Picking the ball up deep in his own half, he went sideways across the pitch as shouts of “go forward” broke out..he waited until he saw a gap and then burst through it, before producing a perfectly timed pass to Jac G…and well, it’s game over then isn’t it..as Jac sprints down the touchline faster then the eye can see…Harry hits the post, unlucky…no…wait..it’s gone over!

Second half:  Cobras 35-0 Bargoed

We fell foul of the refs whistle quite a bit this half, through our eagerness to make tackles, something to work on as it stops us getting possession and allows the opposition to break out of defence easily.

Bargoed again made good breakthroughs occasionally, but couldn’t keep it going to get close to our line, their whole team can be proud of the shift they put in today.

Bargoeds big pack made scrums very competitive today, with neither side giving an inch in a great battle. However, our next try came when our lads put in a huge shove to get one against the head, leaving Bargoed surprised and then reeling as shimmying Shane bagged his second try, sailing home from the half way line, leaving grasping defenders in his wake as he dodged and sidestepped his way under the posts. Harry converted.

Just as time was up, Llewellyn the great burst through a gap to finish off the try scoring, Jack is deadly when he spots a gap, his fine all round game deserved that cherry on the top. Harry bagged the extras to round off a perfect exhibition of kicking, faultless throughout.

Moments later, came a loud blast of the whistle from the excellent ref, who managed the teams very well today.

Love and Hisses 🐍 🏉 💚

Player of the Match

Was Shane, who was superb today, covering every blade of the non boggy artificial grass, working hard and oozing talent, all topped off with two wonderful tries.

Well played indeed!
