Good Evans! As Harry proves he’s up for the cup!

Good Evans! As Harry proves he’s up for the cup!

Cobras 43-0 Whiteheads

Great to welcome our friends from Newport, as we begin our cup campaign on a boiling hot summer day (a bit odd as it’s October).

After reaching the final last year, the team were sure to be keen to play well, whilst the coaches will be grateful they had an early night yesterday….

First half:  Cobras 28-0 Whiteheads

The opening ten minutes were very even, Whiteheads are a good side, technically skilful and with a big strong pack.

Shane, is hitting a really rich vein of form…our first try comes as he intercepts a pass and races away from the opposition defenders to go under the posts.
Harry J converts.

At scrum time it’s an even battle today, whilst we have the edge in the line outs, thanks to Rhys’s ability to leap like a Salmon who’s been entered for the World Salmon leaping contest.

Cam picks the ball up in our own half and races away from any would be tacklers, he’s an exceptional runner and always carries a threat. He goes under the posts, chased all the way by determined Whiteheads defenders.
Harry J converts.

Snowy is dominating the breakdown, not allowing Whiteheads to build anything, whilst Jack L is a terrier in the loose and reaps the reward, with a well taken try, bursting through in fine style.  Jack does so much grafting work for the cobras, this was great to see.
Harry J converts.

The half is rounded off by a stunning try from the Elvis of the valleys, as he gets past several would be tacklers down the left wing, before cutting in to score.  Well done Shane!

Second half : Cobras 43-0 Whiteheads

The second half was a more disjointed affair, as the Cobras fell foul of the refs whistle, we will need to work on our offside lines in the week.

But, there were also moments of magic:

Luke charging down the left wing, is a sight to see, like a Rhino at full pelt….Would be tacklers bravely tried to stop him, whilst parents and coaches wisely ran from the touchline to stay safe.  Great try! Conversion just missed.

On the other side of the pitch Harry E scores from way out, no tackler really getting close to him as he beats man after man to score in the corner. Conversion just missed.

The game closes with the second Cam try of the game, it’s similar to many others as he beats half the opposing team to score under the posts, he’s unstoppable in this form.
Conversion missed.

Player of the match

Was Harry Evans, for a captains performance, driving his team to success.  Immaculate at the breakdown, strong in the tackle and great running..all topped off with a fantastic try! Well played indeed 👏
