Good Evans as Tommy rocks om

Good Evans as Tommy rocks on!

Pontyclun 25-35 Cae

Today saw our first trip to the bridge over the river clun, or Pontyclun as some of you may know it.  Like most Welsh villages Pontyclun changed from being farmland to a busy town when King coal took his throne, perhaps unusually though the population here was massively boosted by Cornish miners who had been left devastated by the collapse of the copper mining industry according to the 1871 census. I wondered why I suddenly fancied a pasty at full time....

First half:  pontyclun 20-10 Cae

Pontyclun were undefeated this season and pretty quickly it was obvious why, they have teak tough forwards and a hot stepping back line that wouldn't be out of place on strictly.  They raced into a 10-0 lead with some brilliant rugby and almost got a third before last ditch tackling stopped them on the line.
This game was going to be a test of character and as always the little green uns were not to be found wanting by such a situation.
Little Ry got us back into the game after some good work from Jayden and then Cam went over in the corner after a good carry from Jack.
The half closed though with Pontyclun scoring twice to take a comfortable lead into half time.

Second half: Pontyclun 15-25 Cae

There was something about the half time team talk that made me think something special was about to happen. Wayne, Mark, Chris and Lewis were all gesticulating widely with animated expressions on their face, for a moment I was worried that the police might be called but the end result was that the boys were as fired up as I've ever seen them.
There was a penalty ten yards from the Pontyclun line and Cian tapped it and motored to the line, desperate Pontyclun defenders tried to stop him but they would have needed military help today as young cooper smashed over the line to close the gap.
Big Lew who had been charging forward like a Sherman tank all game, including one run where he gave a passable impression of a gazelle sprinting from a Lion, got a try next to level things up and within another minute Tom L scored to put us ahead.
As we've seen a few times this season Pontyclun then made the error of kicking to little Ry and the result we've become accustomed to followed as he beat their entire team to score.
Any hint of complacency though was soon banished as pontyclun scored again to get within one score.
Pontyclun now piled the pressure on but Sawyer, Charlie, Oliver, Liam and Ross all battled to hold them up, whilst Kai was always dangerous with ball in hand.
As the game stood on a precipice Tom E capped a fine all round performance with the final try to seal a famous victory that none who witnessed from the packed stands will ever forget.

Man of the match.

Tom Evans was man of the match and it was a just reward for a great all round performance and a match winning try. When asked what he put his fine performance down to he replied "it's your sporting advice Jim, I'd be lost without it, my dad knows a bit about coaching sport but he's not a patch on you' fine words indeed, onwards and upwards....
