It was great to visit our old friends in Ebbw Vale today, they always play the game in good spirit.

 

Ebbw are consistently one of the strongest teams in Welsh rugby, beating mighty Toulouse in a Heineken cup game in the late 90s.. and certainly have the best ground in Gwent, this was sure to be a considerable test.

 

The sun was out today, as spring finally made an appearance, the coaches were hoping the boys would respond with some flowing rugby.

 

First half:  Ebbw Vale 0-14 Cobras

 

Ebbw Vale were excellent in the first half, they have a well coached side, with a strong scrum and big ball carriers all over the park.

 

It’s fair to say that the game was pretty even for the first fifteen minutes, Ebbw attacked really well, with Harry E having to be at his jackling best on a couple of occasions… but…then… Luke  exploded onto the scene, he picks fantastic angles out and is impossible to stop once in flow, he runs like a Rhino with a toothache heading to the emergency dentist.

 

His two tries, converted by Harry J closed off the first half.

 

Second half: Ebbw Vale 0-47 Cobras.

 

The Cobras were sensational this half, it was the best team performance of the season. All players have grown in confidence and this really shone through this morning, huge credit to the coaches for all their hard work getting the boys to such a high level. 👏 

 

It’s fair to say that everyone played their part as a tiring, but always competitive Ebbw team were faced with a barrage of flowing rugby.

 

Five tries this half, scored by Sonny, Keagan, Cam * 2 and Luke for his hat trick..with the best try being a lovely flowing move that touched all hands before Cam played in King Keagan on the wing, who gave a regal wave to his subjects as he scored in the corner.

All bar one try was converted by the metronomic Harry J, who misses as often as Neil Jenkins used to.

 

Player of the match 

 

Was Luke, for a stunning performance, capped off with three excellent tries, with Sam also excellent, sturdy in the scrums and energetic in the loose.

 

However, this was a day when any player could have grabbed the accolade, keep the good work up boys.
