Green army produce a “Mint” performance as they down plucky Llantrisant!

Cae 61-5 Llantrisant

A huge welcome to Llantrisant for their first ever visit to the field of screams.

So, a new season is upon us, time to put away the Caerphilly branded budgie smugglers for another year and bring out the bobble hats, scarves and bovril, what Joy!

A massive welcome to our new player: Hudson, he’s a lovely lad and a great player, we are delighted to have him aboard the good ship Cae and hope he enjoys the coming years amongst our rugby family.

Great to see Titanium Tommy back on his feet today, supporting his mates and looking on the mend after his injury last week.  Get well soon Tommy!

First half:    Cae 46-5 Llan

Cae were brilliant this half, it was an exhibition of running rugby, designed to make a coach glow with pride or at least nod with quiet contentment.

The first try was a worthy reward for our Captain Big Lew,  picking the ball up after prolonged pressure, he drove towards the line like a wildebeest on the high veldt and wouldn’t be denied.

The gnarly forwards we’re hoovering up everything and when it reached our backs they glided forward like sea biscuit in his pomp., it was lovely stuff.

The ball goes through the hands to Little Ry and there isn’t a defensive line in Gwent rugby that wants to be confronted by that and he duly romps away for his first try of the game.

Ross converts with aplomb.

Next up it’s Cam’s turn to show what he can do...and it’s pretty impressive... he’s away from would be tacklers with lightening pace to score his first of the day!

Little Ry and Cam are proving too much for the opposition and they quickly bag another try each with scorching runs.

Cae are completely dominant now, the forwards are showing up well, Jayden is making huge yardage with every run, Sawyer is covering every blade of grass, Jack E and Alex are strong in all areas and Kai and Kody are ensuring quick ball is the order of the day, whilst Tyler and Jack L are whippet like when in possession.

Llantrisant are wonderfully resilient though and don’t let their heads drop, a booming tackle creates a turnover and their big lock is over for a try, just reward for their determined display.

Cae are soon back on the attack, hungry for more, that livewire, Hudson,  scores next, crashing over after good work from the pack.

Ross converts.

Cae are dynamic from the kick off, Sawyer picks up a loose ball and goes on a strong run to behind their halfway line, he pops it up to Jayden who breaks through a string of tacklers with yet another strong run ( he was on fire today) to take it to the 22, then, instead of dying with the ball, as he’s tackled, he pops a lovely ball out to the supporting Liam on his outside who runs in to finish off a wonderful team try.

The half ends with something we’ve seen quite often over the last seven years...Little Ry has the ball with nothing seemingly on and an entire opposition confronting him, but with a swerve of the hips, a couple of nonchalant side steps and acceleration to match a Tesla Roadster, he’s away and over the line before anyone knows what’s happened and sensationally secures a hat trick of tries for the day.

Hudson converts beautifully.

Second half: Cae 61-5 Llantrisant

Cae went for the jugular this half and didn’t release their grip.

Morgan, who has been dominant up front all game scores our first and beats several would be tacklers to grab a well deserved try.

Ross, playing at centre today, then showed his power and pace to get his name on the scoresheet, he’s a real handful with ball in hand and the defenders had no answer.

Our final try before the ref called proceedings to a halt was another lovely team try, the ball went through the hands to Morgan, who selflessly passed the ball to Ieuan in space, he still had quite a bit to do but made no mistake, going over in the corner to grab the final try of the match.

Match Summary:

Man of the Match: was Kai, for a wholehearted performance, never taking a backward step throughout and excellent in attack.

A great all round team performance, fantastic to see everyone contributing, forward and backs working in harmony with the tries being shared around as a consequence.

Oh, and finally, a special mention for little Ry, a sensational all round performance,  several crunching try saving tackles to go with his three brilliantly taken tries, superb! And a big thank you for helping out with the conversions..urm...but as your Mam yelled from the stands...”don’t give up your day job”

Onwards and upwards for the green army
