Cae reach another final as the Bonnie Prince claims his rightful throne

Cae reach another final as the Bonnie Prince claims his rightful throne!

Caerleon 0-45 Caerphilly

A tense crowd gathered amidst the Roman Ruins for a re match of last years final, which as we all know was a thrilling affair that saw us edged out by the slightest of margins...

However, with a trip to Rodney Parade awaiting us, the boys were eager to make amends, all turning up over an hour before kick off to make sure preparation was spot on.

With the Wales game yesterday and this semi on today, you’d be mad to have been away this weekend.  How was Scotland Lew?

First half:   Caerleon 0-21 Cae

After the initial five minutes of sparring the boys took this game by the scruff of the neck and never let go, playing their best rugby of the season.

The first blow to strike against Caerleon was a strike from Henry’s hammer as he muscled his way over after some good work by the forwards. Tom converted.

Caerleon tried to attack, but they were met by a defence that could have been coached by Sean Edwards, as time after time they were knocked backwards.  Jack L has trademarked the chop tackle now and it’s rarely bypassed by attackers.

Ross, who was superb this half,  took over now and just proved too strong for our opponents, he beat players consistently and powered home for two tries in quick succession, both of which were converted beautifully by Tom L, who is in the kicking form of his life.

Caerleon had one last chance to score and their lanky outside half thought he was in for a try in the corner...before he was introduced to our full back, a certain Mr R Williams who quickly disabused him of that plan and whacked him into next Wednesday..urm...I mean touch...

Second half:  Caerleon 0-45 Cae

There was no let up for Caerleon this half,  but they never gave up and battled bravely to the end.

Unfortunately for them, Bonnie Prince Charlie came to the party this half and was simply devastating.  He tore into Caerleon as if he held them personally responsible for the Battle of Culloden, and it seems certain that the 1745 rebellion would have gone a different way if the Jacobites had actually had our Bonnie Prince leading them....

Little Ry went on a hotstepping run, beating man after man in his usual style before releasing Charlie to gallop away like Al Boum photo in Fridays gold cup.

Five minutes later, Charlie gets the ball again and runs through the entire opposition to notch his second, in this mood he is unplayable.

Charlie’s final try is a candidate for “try of the season”...  Caerleon kick the ball to just shy of our line, where Cam is first to the ball but with three players on him...he’s trapped surely and a five metre scrum beckons....but no... he’s wriggled out of it like a young Houdini! He’s away to the half way line, where he finds Ryan, who finds Ross, who slips it to Kody, who slips it to Big Lew, who plays a wonder pass to Charlie, who is away and scores! Incredible try!  If you listened closely you could hear ghostly Roman shields being banged together in tribute.... Tom Converts

Caerleon attack again but Kody puts in a brilliant tackle and we are away again...the ball goes through the hands to Henry who scores to get the last try of the game. Tom Converts.

As the game winds down Caerleon try to score, but with hymns and arias echoing tunefully around the ground in acknowledgment of our heroes the ref blows up for the end of the game.

Conclusion

A fantastic performance from the boys and a well deserved trip to Rodney Parade now beckons. Man of the Match was Bonnie Prince Charlie, who led from the front and scored a memorable hat trick of tries. When asked what he put his performance down to he replied simply “didn’t you see Alun Wyn yesterday?”

The lad makes a good point, onwards and upwards
