Classy Cae provide a fitting season finale!

Classy Cae provide a fitting season finale!

Machen 4-5 Cae

So this was it, the end of season 2014/2015.   The question on every parents lips was "could the boys finish with a win?"

First third: Machen 3-1 Cae

The early exchanges were dominated by Machen as the boys seemed to be suffering from the short turnaround since last weeks tournament, one of the lads was heard to comment that he knew how the Auckland Blues players feel on returning from a super rugby fixture in Pretoria.
Inevitably Machen took the lead after some prolonged attacking to open the scoring before Tom did what Tom does best and nonchalantly shimmied the length of the field to reply.
That was the end of the scoring for us in the first third though as Machen took control and only some great tackling kept the score down to 3-1.

Second third: Machen 3-3 Cae

As always, the little green army fought back, these little tyros don't know the word vanquished and if they did they certainly couldn't spell it.
The team roared out for this third and charged into their eastern neighbours, tackle after tackle forced the machinations (im guessing that is their nickname) onto the back foot forcing several knock ons, before Cam got our second try bouncing away from a few tacklers and under the post to make the conversion straight forward.
As the period approached its end little Ryan bagged his 12,000th career try for the little green army, a fine landmark for the young fellow after only three seasons and it was good to see the crowd rise from their seats as one to applaud, what a player!

Third third: Machen 4-5 Cae

It was all to play for in this final third of the season, could the boys end on a win? You betcha!
Sean Cooper set the mood when he ran fifty yards with ten Machen defenders hanging off him, wonderful stuff, he nearly went over himself before setting up Dylan to crash over for a score that signed off a fine first season in the green shirt.
Machen levelled things up before Kody started to take a grip of the game, he went on several of his usual barreling runs before with time running out he smashed his way forward before cleverly offloading the ball to Liam five yards from the line. Liam weighed up his options: should I do a delicate sidestep? Maybe throw an outrageous dummy? Nah, I'll go for my trademark "run straight over em" move and with that he charged straight ahead, knocked two Machen defenders over and touched down on the line to win the game.

Man of the match was.... Well.... The entire team. How could it be different today, all the boys contributed brilliantly and the squad of 19 all made a difference whether with the ball in hand or valiant defence!

2014/2015 has been a great season and all the boys should be very proud of their efforts, see you in September, onwards and upwards for the little green army!
