Cameron the Colossus!

Cobras 49-0 Bargoed

A big Caerphilly welcome to our friends from the north, as Bargoed arrive in town. Both sets of players know each other well, after playing alongside each other in last years extremely successful district season.

It was good to see friendships restored and handshakes all round before kick off.

First Half:  Cobras 42-0 Bargoed

When the Cobras are at it, like they were this evening, it’s very difficult for opposition sides.  Many seasoned observers on the side lines were comparing our forwards to the pooler pack of the 1970s and our backs to the Caerphilly team of the early 2000s.  High praise indeed.

The forwards were superb today, against a really strong opposing pack: mobile, strong and athletic, providing a constant stream of good ball for our lightning back line.

The opening score was the perfect try, the forwards secure possession, the ball goes through the hands and Jac G races away for his 17,000th try of the season.  Chasing Jac G is a futile task, a clever sponsor will soon be getting their brand name on the bottom of his boots. Harry J converts.

Next up was Shimmying Shane, a typical try, he always seems to get through openings that aren’t visible to other players and then race away to score. Harry J converts.

Almost immediately, we score our trademark try: forwards take it up, get the opposition on the back foot, ball goes through the hands Jac G races away.  Harry J converts.

Cam has had a fantastic start to the season, a forward really shouldn’t be as quick as him, he scores the next try, sprinting away down the wing and then under the posts, absolutely ridiculous.  He’s some player. Harry J converts.

The game continues in much the same way, Jac G gets another hat trick for us, adding a couple of side steps to his pace, that really doesn’t seem fair does it…Harry J conv…wait a minute…it’s not appropriate to just say Harry J converts here, this kick was from really wide out, but as the song says 🎵 it went straight down the middle 🎵. 👏 

The half is rounded off with a try from another of our speedsters, King Keagan, who sprints down the wing and under the posts, great try. Harry J converts.

Second half:  Cobras 49-0 Bargoed

This half was much closer, full credit to an excellent Bargoed side who battled throughout, tackling everything that moved and giving their all. On another day they would have got a few tries for sure.

Our only try was scored by Cameron, after a period of forward dominance, he is very hard to stop when close to the line, for opposition tacklers it must seem like trying to take out a Sherman tank armed with peashooters. Harry J converted.

Special mention to Luca, who produced a wonderful run, beating several players before just being denied a try by a stunning tackle over the line. It will come.

Another superb effort from all the team, every player brilliant  today and another game played in great spirit.

Player of the Match

Was Cameron, for an all action display, which saw him cover every blade of grass, bag a couple of tries and do his fair share of the grunt up front. Well played 👏
