Rainy days and Sundays make us smile!

Rainy days and Sundays make us smile!

Cobras 49-0 Gwernyfed

Our first ever game against Gwernyfed, huge thanks to them for coming all the way from Brecon, particularly on such a beautiful day β›ˆ.

This game would be a good test of squad strength, as some of the team utilise half term to make a break for it, can’t think where in the world could have better weather though than balmy Virginia park in late October.

First half Cobras 15-0 Gwernyfed

As we kicked off, the sun was out and the weather looked set fair for the next hour (Little did we know).

The game was a real battle for the first twenty minutes, Gwernyfed have some really strong players, they tackled well and had one superb player who made huge ground every time he touched the ball.

Gradually, the Cobras got on top, as our pack started to dominate. Luke and Dan carry the ball upfield well and from the final breakdown Super Sammy Kennard bursts onto the ball at pace, leaving opposing defenders floundering as he crashes over, a great try.

With the pack on top, the backs started to get the ball and a good move frees up Sonny to break through, he’s too fast and strong for the opposing defenders and powers through to score.

Sam F/S is having a really good game today, he breaks through and sets up the next try, leaving King Keagan in space, the King is impossible to stop if given space and he sprints and side steps through to crown a great first half performance.

What happened next had to be experienced to be believed, the skies darkened and within seconds the biggest downpour in the world since Noah said “Has anyone got a brolly handy?” broke out. Kids/coaches/family members sprinted for the bushes and hid until it eased..  half time was wisely called.

Second half: Cobras 49-0 Gwernyfed

If there is one thing that Caerphilly kids learn at an early age, it’s to play in the rain…and that showed this half. Blake and Rhys were having really strong games and making good ground with runs, before releasing Jac G, who else, to score again, sizzling down the wing in the heavy ground.

Luca, was a danger all game with his pace and a break led to a dangerous Cobra attack, with the ball going to our turnover King, Snowy Evans, who topped off a fine game with a strong finish, beating three players before going over.

Max and Cole did their fair share of defending and attacking today and after a joint tackle to snuff out an attack, the ball was turned over releasing Cameron, he is quick and strong and went under the posts.

It wasn’t a day for conversions really, pouring down and blowing a hoolie, but Charlie knocked the conversion over.

Harry J and Charlie were really gelling at 9/10 now and we were well on top, to be fair to the opposition though, they didn’t give up and had travelled without a sub, so exhaustion on the heavy ground was setting in and in the last ten minutes injuries further weakened them.

We closed the game out with three quick tries as Jack L got one after a fine game, followed by second tries for Cam and Sonny, with the last one being converted.

The ref blew the final whistle and we all rushed home to dry off….
