It’s Kode red as young Turk swings his scimitar!

Cae 26-17 Dowlais

Ah, to be in Wales in January....with a howling gale, intermittent torrential rain and freezing temperatures we gathered around the all weather pitch for a tricky encounter.

The boys have been in a rich vein of form in 2019 but would we able to keep this up against the strongest opposition we’ve faced so far this year or would we crumble like an Everton back four trying to defend a free kick lumped into the box?

We were severely depleted by injuries today, all the best to our injured/ill players, get well soon boys!

First half:  Cae 12-5 Dowlais

Due to injuries, our talisman, the Bonnie Prince, played out on the wing today, but as expected he was just as devastating from this position.

With the considerable wind behind us, we attacked from kick off like Vikings approaching Lindisfarne in the 8th Century...

Charlie makes a break down the wing and on his shoulder is Liam to smash over the line and grab the first try of the game right by the touchline.

Dowlais played very well today and came straight back at us, recycling the ball extremely well, eventually ending up in our 22. it looks like a try is pending.....but no.. Liam has ripped the ball in the tackle and popped it Charlie who gallops away before kicking ahead.  The ball stops just before their line and Tom manages to recycle if for that will-o’- the-wisp Cam to score a well earned try to go with his superb all action scrum half display . Tom converts beautifully from wide out with a hurricane wind to contend with.

Dowlais came straight back again but this time they made no mistake, going through phase after phase faultlessly to score, a real lesson for our boys in patience and control,

Second half:  Cae 26-17 Dowlais

Playing into the wind second half would prove to be a real test of our resolve today,  at times so intense was the gale force wind that it looked like our boys were running on one of the state of the art treadmills at Creazione...

Dowlais kept trying to attack through the midfield and unfortunately kept running into young Kody, who either stopped them with a well timed tackle or jackled and stole the ball at the breakdown.  Such was his defence today that if we had a time machine to take us back to A.D 122, the Romans would surely  just asked him to patrol between Bowness and Wallsend rather than building a ruddy big wall...

In our own 22 the ball is recycled to Charlie and he heads off to the opposition line, a few of the braver Dowlais lads have a go at stopping him to little effect and he eventually touches down under the posts leaving several defends on their backsides. Brilliant stuff! Tom converts.

Dowlais hit back again, there genuinely wasn’t much between the sides, they kept the ball beautifully before scoring again.

With time running out there was a chance for little Ry to show his class, Sawyer who worked tirelessly throughout the game chased a last cause and his pressure led to a mistake, the ball was moved elegantly through midfield by Kody and it ended up in Ryan’s hands.  Ry utilised his patented hot-stepping routine to make the break and his lightening pace did the rest as he went under the posts. Tom converted.

Dowlais had the last score of the day but it wasn’t enough to stop our boys keeping up the good form of 2019, well done lads keep this run going next week!

Man of the Match was Kody for producing an all action display: composed and articulate in attack and rock solid defensively, this is a well deserved accolade for a top top performance.

Onwards and upwards for the green army!
