It’s Llewelyn the Great, as Cobras win again!

It’s Llewelyn the Great, as Cobras win again!

Cobras 43-5 Llantwit Fardre

Always good to welcome our friends from Llantwit Fardre, indeed this our most played fixture and they were the first team we ever played (those photos are safely stored until the team turn 18 together)…

This game was played on the main pitch, the legendary field of screams, would this inspire the Cobras to victory?

First Half:  Cobras 19-0 Llantwit Fardre

The team charged out of the changing rooms, ready for action and completely focussed, it was almost as if they’d been smarting all week for some reason or another…

From kick off we attack, Cameron running from number 8, makes ground, the ball goes through the hands to Jac G and…well, it’s the usual result..he’s burned past the defence and in under the posts. Harry J converts with his usual aplomb.

Llantwit have some big strong forwards, but it’s our pack that get on top, pushing them back in the scrums and competing fiercely at ruck time, this in turn frees the backs and the next try comes as Jac G picks the ball up in his own half before skating round the Llantwit defence once again. Harry J slips as he attempts the conversion and it’s a rare miss for the metronomic maestro.

Can anyone guess who scored the final try of the half?  Yep, it’s Jac G again, who grabs a sensational hat trick, smoothly going through the gears, leaving grasping defenders in his wake.  I really hope for his parents sake, that he isn’t on £5 a try, this is going to be an expensive season for them……Normal service is resumed as Harry J converts.

Second half: Cobras 43-5 Llantwit Fardre

The second half is another good battle, the score not reflecting the strong performance from Llantwit.  However, the Cobras are just too strong all round, Jack Ll is popping up everywhere now, like a…sorry..Jack in a box…and he scores the next try, bursting powerfully through defenders to go under the posts. Harry J converts.

Llantwit, to their credit, are playing a good brand of running rugby, but that brings its own risks, a knock on is swooped on by Ollie B, like a seagull spotting a kid with chips outside Cardinal Newman school and he’s away, It’s a classic poachers try! Harry J converts.

Llantwit never let their heads drop and score the next try, it’s a wonderful individual effort, but we miss quite a few attempted tackles.  Ominously, Coach Jones is seen to frown and scribble in his notebook, this isn’t good news for the team at the next training session….

The Cobras come roaring back though, like wounded snakes and it isn’t long before we strike again.  To celebrate the accession of our new King, it’s Charlie who’s the darling and tops off a fine game with a good try.  Gracie strikes the conversion well, but it goes just wide.

There is time for one more try, as appropriately on a Sunday, Harry E (the monk) barrels over for a try, taking a few defenders with him, he’s had a strong game and this tops it off nicely. Charlie strikes the conversion, it’s hit really well, but goes just under the posts.

A great effort from the Cobras and a game played in wonderful spirit, keep up the good work Cobras. Love and Hisses 🏉 🐍 💚

Player of the match

Was Jack Llewelyn, for a fantastic all round display, full of lung bursting runs, turnovers and powerful tackling. Well played 👏
