Liam the lionheart, as green army give all they've got

Liam the lionheart, as green army give it all they've got.

Game 1: Bridgend Sport 8-3 Caerphilly

On possibly the warmest day we've ever played a league game the boys came up against a formidable outfit and did well to keep the score down after a blistering first half from Bridgend.

First half: Bridgend 6-1 Cae

Oddly enough on such a hot day, the boys were caught cold early on.  Bridgend, who have been training and playing regular friendlies under the new rules for the last month came out of the traps like the favourite in the 7.30 at Catford Dogs and within minutes we were 3-0 down as they dominated the ruck area and threw boys into the tackle as our lads hesitated.
A stunning break by Ryan led to a pop pass to Tom who inevitably, with only three defenders to beat scored. This was a temporary lull though and at half time after a succession of attacks the score was 6-1.

second half : Bridgend 8-3 Cae

After a rallying team talk from Chris and Paul that surely would have made Winston Churchill retire from speech making had he been alive to hear it, the boys were superb second half.
Sawyer putting his body on the line time after time and Liam started hitting the rucks like there was an Everton season ticket hidden at the other side of the opposing player.
Nyle competed well at the rucks, Kai made some good runs and Ryan and Tom exchanged tries with the opposition to draw the half.

Game 2: Bryncethin 5-2 Caerphilly

First half: Bryn 2-2 Caerphilly

The boys were really beginning to get a grasp of the new rules now and this was an even first half against an excellent opposing team.  Tom and Ryan scored standard spectacular tries, one from Ryan up there with his finest of the last three seasons (I'm looking forward to the Tom and Ryan best 100 tries DVD for the little green army when it's released) but they were ably backed up by a fine team effort. Sean and Cian, Jayden, Oliver ford and Ollie Brimble giving it all they had.

Second half: Bryn 5-2 Caerphilly

I never thought I'd say this about us but we suffered through a lack of numbers in this half, with only one sub the boys wilted in the heat against a powerful team and whilst we continued to give everything three more tries gave the final score a harsh look.

Man of the match

Man of the match was Liam for a dogged display up front, he tackled everything that moved and hardly missed a ruck, at the end of the game he was exceedingly proud to note he had a cut face, bashed knee and myriad bruises on arms and legs. Surely he will be asleep by 8.30 tonight?

See you next week, onwards and upwards for the little (ish) green army!
