Match Report - Caerphilly v Machen - KO 11am - Sunday 31 March - Final Score 31-5.

An overcast cold spring morning welcomed a well drilled Machen team to the Vetro Recruitment Stadium.

The opening exchanges set the tone for the encounter with great tackles from Wil Lewis, Eli Weekes and Abhishek knocking back the Machen attacks. Eventually, the home XV wins a penalty. Scott Pritchard takes it quickly and is supported by Connor Mayo who then spreads the ball to Ellis Hughes, who draws the man and provides a long pass to Danny Richards who scores in the corner. 5-0

From the restart Scott Pritchard kicks ahead and Caer win a turnover at ruck time. Abhishek makes a barnstorming run to score 10-0.

Huw Ashman takes the next restart well and feeds Wil Haley who sends along ball into the Machen half. Wil Lewis and Ellis Hughes follow up strongly and win a penalty. 

Caer maintain the pace and pressure and seem to have numbers but they keep it tight and this time Machen keep the line intact with some strong tackles.

However, Caer keep on coming and Scott Pritchard crosses for a 17-0 lead. 

Machen keep on coming through and straight running through their forwards with Caer down to 14, sees a score of their own. 17-5.

Caer are quick to respond again moving the ball at pace and a Penalty enables Will Haley to find a nice touch. From the line out Caer create a maul and make good ground before Scott Prichard picks up from base to score 24-5.

The game then starts to become ill tempered. However, a brilliant tackle by Louis Bellamy saves a certain try and Wil Haley kicks to clear. Great follow up tackles from Callum Morris and Ioan Hill push Machen back into their own half.

The momentum moves back to the home team and Connor Mayo picks up from the base and sets a great line before feeding to Will Haley to score under the posts for a 31-5 victory.
