MATCH REPORT – U14’s
Final Score - Caerphilly 50 Dowlais 0
On a warm but overcast Sunday morning the cheesemen welcomed a physical Dowlais team to the Constructaquote stadium.
A strong start by Dowlais was only matched by some determined tackling and the game ebbed and flowed for the first 15 mins. Eventually some outstanding passing along the back line led to a penalty from which Ioan Hill drew the defence before a nice pass to Owen Hughes who scored under the posts, converted by Lewis Adams. Some concerted pressure followed from the Dowlais pack, eventually resulting in a scrum in the Caer 22. Connor Mayo picked up deftly from No.8 and showed some good pace to score in the corner.
From the kick off the Caer team continued to move the ball, passing accurately along the line to release Connor Mayo on the wing, this time to score under the posts. The pattern continued with crisp passing, outdoing some determined defence from Dowlais, releasing Ellis Hughes this time to score under the posts.
Second half
Dowlais came out in determined fashion in the second half but pressure eventually turned into points, with Wil Lewis tackling the scrum half allowing Scott Prichard to pick up from short range to score.
A well-worked turnover, following more pressure from Dowlais saw the quick movement of the ball again through Haley, Ashman and Hughes to the winger Connor Mayo showing a nice turn of speed to score his fourth try, converted by Will Haley. The interplay between backs and forward continued with accurate passing releasing Logan Turner this time to cross in the corner. The Dowlais team kept going but the match finished with Mayo scoring his fifth try of the match.
Well done boys; great to see the ball doing the work today and the teamwork at close quarters creating room out wide. Keep up the good work and we all send Josh Morkot our best wishes for a speedy recovery #togetherasone.
