Good time for Charlie!

Good time for Charlie!

Cae 35-10 Penallta

After the terrible weather conditions in Risca made it impossible to keep score and last weeks abandonment, it was a relief to have a beautiful sunny day for our home match with Penallta.  I don't think we've ever played our near neighbours in our five year history  so it was a pleasure to welcome the pitmen to the home of Welsh rugby and we even got to play on the posh pitch for the first time!

First half: Cae 5-5 Penallta

The first half was tighter than an Everton chairman as the game ebbed and flowed in the early morning sun.  Kody, following on from his district tries yesterday went over to edge us ahead with a trademark barrelling run but a spirited away team fought back well to ensure the scores were tied at half time.

Second half: Cae 35-10 Penallta

The second half opened up like the Georgia defence confronted by a rampaging Gareth Bale (hope that game doesn't prove me a liar now...)
Big Ross put us 10-5 up with a strong run down the left wing before sloppy defence allowed the pitmen to level again.
After that though it was one way traffic as the forwards began to dominate and the backs put on their dancing shoes.
Tom went on a swerving, sidestepping run from his own 22 to score with  breathtaking insouciance and then Big Lew after just having a score chalked off did a handstand the Olympic gymnasts would be proud of to score in front of his nan.
Charlie won every forward contest in the pitch to put us on the front foot and Oliver scored in the corner to ensure a £50 bonus from his dad (you did say fifty didn't you Rich?)
Tom scored his second before Penallta made the classic mistake of kicking the ball to little Ry, who enraged at their effrontery promptly ran the ball back at them to touch the ball down and round off the scoring.

Man of the match

Charlie was man of the match and it was well earned after an all action display in defence and attack, he provided the oomph that kept Cae going forward during the match.  When asked what he put his brilliant performance down to, he replied "on this pitch? In front of this crowd? Do you even have to ask?"
Wise words indeed!
