Iron Ryan the future British Lion!

Iron Ryan the future British Lion!

Cae 19- 42

We welcomed our regular opponents, Llantwit Fardre, to the field of screams today with confidence high after a strong start to the season.  Strange things were afoot this weekend though: the Dragons had won, one judge felt Golovkin had lost and...wait for it...it wasn't raining... would all this strangeness effect the boys?

First half: Cae 5-28 Llantwit Fardre

The opening seconds showed us exactly what we were in store for as Llantwit Fardre came out of the traps like Mick the Miller in the 1929 greyhound derby. Their first try came after 37 seconds and they proceeded to dominate the half as we struggled to contain their incisive backs or indeed hold our own against their rampaging forwards.
This dominance manifested itself in three more converted tries, whilst we managed to chalk up one in response, Liam won a penalty at ruck time as the opposing player refused to release the ball, this was taken quickly and went to Tom Lewis who as you'd expect sidestepped four hapless defenders to go over for an unconverted try.
To be honest the only reason the scoreboard didn't look worse was due to the tackling of little Ry who covered the ground like a gazelle...but tackled like a Lion... time after time he came to our rescue with a sensational last ditch effort, it was incredible to see.

Second half: Cae 19-42 Llantwit Fardre

The team battled gamely second half and showed enough character to indicate that defeats like this would be few and far between this season.
Kai scored a lovely try, utilising his lightening speed to race past three defenders, when this lad gets the ball on the wing with space ahead there is only one result. This was converted by Tom Lewis.
Llantwit Fardre scored two more tries before our best move of the day saw the ball go through the backs hands before that clinical finisher, Tom Evans, completed the scoring with Ross converting in fine style.
Llantwit Fardre tried to notch up a few more tries but their waves of attacks came unstuck whenever Little Ry was in the vicinity, one textbook tackle was timed so beautifully that the poor attacker was knocked back so far that he had to pay to get back in the ground once he'd dusted himself off.

Man of the Match

Went to the virtuoso of the valleys, little Ry.  This lad is simply a brilliant rugby player, quite often he receives praise for his stunning tries, lightening fast and full of tricks, he is nigh on unstoppable at times, but today his perfect tackling technique came to the fore, as he saved try after try and worked his socks off for the team.  His talent is self evident but his character has to be mentioned today, to keep battling for the team under such adverse circumstance shows just why I've had £1.50 on him playing for the Lions in 2029. When asked what he put his fine performance down to, he replied "I wanted to show Lukaku just what he will happen if he dares get the winner against my beloved toffees today". Wise words indeed, onwards and upwards...
