Big Lew takes Newport old boys back to school!

Newport HSOB 15-40 Cae

Our second ever visit to Caerleon and the main concern this time was avoiding the lanes we got stuck in back in 2014: inevitably despite my best efforts I found myself facing a juggernaut half way down that very same lane half hour after departure.
It was particularly kind of Helen to comment "isn't this the lane you wanted to avoid?" As I reversed back around various twisting corners....

First half: Newport 10-20 Cae

This team contained quite a few Newport district players and it was clear early on that we had a battle on our hands, after a couple of strong carries they went over in the corner to open the scoring.
The next five minutes were a tough even stalemate with the game ebbing and flowing as both sides attacked and counter attacked, all in attendance agreed that this was one of the better games of the season.
Two quick tries for us changed all that, first little Ry going over and then Ollie complementing another good performance with the second try.
The old boys hit back to level before Kody got his just rewards after some barnstorming runs to go over before Ross rounded off the scoring with another good effort.

Second half:  Newport 15-40 Cae

Cae were more dominant this half and played some lovely rugby,  Charlie slipped a  brilliant  pass through to Ross and he made no mistakes to get his second try.
That brave little battler Cian, after already getting injured in the first half took a stray boot to the face whilst as usual putting himself in the thick of the action, but I'm pleased to report that after a visit to the hospital he's at home bruised but unbowed.
Old boys kept on battling and scored again before a three try salvo settled affairs, firstly Cam scored a lovely try after a sidestep that left the entire opposition defence having to pay to get back in the ground.
Big Lew then capped off a superb all round game with a well deserved try before Ross who was brilliant in attack and defence went over to complete his hat trick 🎩.

Man of the match

Was a well deserved accolade for Big Lew who tackled brilliantly, dominated at ruck time and carried like a monster truck. When asked what he put his stunning performance down to he replied "Dad said that if I didn't have a brilliant game you  were going to give me a lift back home!"
Hmmm, wise words indeed, onwards and upwards for the little green army
