Wham bam thank you Cam!

Wham bam thank you Cam!

Cae 30-5 Bedwas

A tribute to the fallen of the Somme was held at the start of the game. Whilst the immense loss on both sides was clearly horrific,  today was a good time to remember the 5 Welsh rugby internationals who died on those forlorn Flanders fields. The boys of both sides observed the minutes silence impeccably and remembered the following:
Dick Thomas, born Ferndale 1883. 4 caps and 2 grand slams.
John Williams, born Cardiff 1882. 17 caps and 3 grand slams.
David Watts, born Maesteg 1886. 4 caps.
Charles Pritchard, born Newport 1882. 14 caps and one grand slam.
Horace Thomas, born Pentyrch 1890. 2 caps.

First half: Cae 10-5 Bedwas

On a very hot Autumn day the little green army played their nearest rivals Bedwas and it was a good battle in the first half.  Tom E scored the first try after a good break by Kody and scored a second soon after following on from some strong runs by Charlie and Lewis. After this though the boys showed a bit of indiscipline around the break down area and were pinged several times allowing Bedwas back into the game, I'm sure the coaches will want to work on this area in the coming week. As a result of this Bedwas came back into the game and scored just before half time.

Second half:  Cae 30-5 Bedwas

Bedwas battled bravely in the second half but with only 12 players and no substitutes on such a day as this, they eventually tired. Tom L scored his obligatory stunning try to start the scoring, running virtually the length of the pitch. When Bedwas did conjure up an attack, they generally ran into Cam who chopped them down like a Canadian lumberjack rushing to finish early on a Friday afternoon, he was brilliant today.
Ross backed up another strong all round performance with the next try after Liam had hounded Bedwas into a mistake by spoiling their ball around the ruck.
The next try was the champagne moment as the boys, now playing with confidence put the ball through the hands until it ended up in Nyle's hands on the wing and he flew home in the corner to round off a cracking sporting weekend for him. Kody then had a try chalked off, which was a pity as he'd had a barnstorming match but rules are rules and the Ref was right up with play.
Caerphilly were dominant in the closing stages and after a misplaced kick Adam brilliantly caught the ball high above his head and went over to complete the scoring.

Man of the match.

Cam was the deserved winner today, he has good hands in possession and tackles with the force of a Sherman tank, many a Bedwas player will be feeling the effects of a well timed textbook tackle whilst watching scrum five tonight. When he asked what he put his good performance down to, he replied.  "This performance is a tribute to the finest player in the Ynysddu side" fine words indeed.  I know his Dad plays for Ynysddu , I'll ask him if he knows who the lad might be talking about. Onward and upwards!
