Henry's Hammer Nails Caldicot!

Henry's Hammer Nails Caldicot!

Caldicot 25-35 Cae

Our second ever visit to Caldicot and we received the same cordial welcome as last time, they are a lovely friendly club and it's a pleasure to visit.  This trip is the longest we face in a season but it's a pleasant enough drive down the motorway. I'll share with you a conversation me and the lovely lady wife had in the car:
Me: Damn, I missed the turn for the ground, I'll have to turn round.
Helen: yes, you did that last time, I was wondering if you'd do it again.
Me: did you think of warning me as we approached?
Helen: did cross my mind....

First half: Caldicot 10-25 Cae

Not for the first time this season the opposition scored straight from the kick off, a knock on was picked up by them and they raced in. I'm sure our coaches will be driving home the vital importance of switching on from the start ahead of next weeks game.
We hit back in dramatic styles though... Henry, on his debut, made a sensational burst through the middle and raced away to score, wow, he is lightening fast.
Next up was a lovely little move from our boys, which ended up with Tom L drawing the last man before releasing Tom E to touch down in the corner.
Ross, who was showing up with some great carries first had a try denied before a minute later going over for our third.
Caldicot had one excellent player and he ran from inside his own half beating most of our team to pull a try back, get those tackles in boys.
Tom scored the next try, he's harder to tackle than a zig zagging cheetah before Henry rounded off the scoring with a blistering second try.

Second half: Caldicot 25-35 Cae

The boys got a bit frustrated this half and found themselves on the wrong side of decisions, this was them compounded with them being marched back ten yards quite often for not going back ten yards, on these small pitches getting marched back ten yards often leaves you defending on the line and Caldicot always punished us with short range scores. A good lesson for the boys on the importance of discipline on the rugby pitch.
However, in saying that, we did score two more tries, Henry beautifully set up Tom E for a try and bagged another himself to get a hat trick, not bad at all for his first game, let's hope he keeps improving and gets at least four next match!

Man of the match

I guess the match report gives it away, Henry was simply brilliant on his debut, the lad is a real talent and fitted into the green army set up straight away. When asked what he put his brilliant performance down to, he replied "well, with Wales, Scotland, England and Ireland all winning, a hat trick on my debut was the least I could do to celebrate such a rare occasion". Wise words indeed.....
