Pencoed 4-4 Caerphilly

Here we go again, a brand new season as we tackle the world of under 11s.  All those tiny little boys that joined up aged 6 now only a year away from scary big school!
Pencoed like so many Welsh towns grew up around the coal industry, nowadays it has many plus points but the major one being that it's much nearer Caerphilly than Abergavenny

First Half Pencoed 2 Caerphilly 2

This was a very good game between two strong and evenly matched sides, considering it was the first game of the season the handling skills on display were extremely impressive.
The extra players, increased pitch size and changed rules didn't phase the teams at all as they tore into each other from the off.
Pencoed broke the deadlock with a well worked try, they had a great combination of strength up front and pace on the wing.
That magician Tom L struck back quickly though with a brilliant interception try, running half the pitch away from the opposition. This was quickly followed by a lovely passing move started by Jayden that ended up with little Ryan in the clear and when little Ryan gets in the clear it only ends one way, try to the little green army.
Just before half time Pencoed struck again to ensure it was square at the break.

Second half:  Pencoed 4-4 Caerphilly

Big Ryan who had started to make a real difference in the first half continued to dominate up front, creating mayhem in the opposition ranks whenever he had the ball,  many seasoned observers amongst the packed crowd compared him to a young Scott Quinnell in his pomp.
Tom L struck first this half with a long range effort, he's got hips like Elvis and takes some stopping in full flow. Pencoed then camped in our half for five minutes before eventually forcing their way over the line.
Little Ryan put us ahead again after good work from Tom E before with the last play of the game Pencoed snatched a deserved draw.

Man of the Match

Big Ryan was a deserved winner of the first man of the match award, he combined massive yardage with some deft handling and great defensive work to get the season off to a cracking start.
When asked what he put his good performance down to he replied "it's all down to the marvellous coaching team, I simply put into practice their expert advice' that was great to hear but as he left the field I heard him shout to Lewis " Lew, do I get my fiver now?", which I didn't really understand.
See you next week, onwards and upwards!
