Ross the boss puts the gloss on Cae victory

Cae 38-5 Whiteheads.
After last week’s stunning victories at the Newbridge tournament, a huge crowd filled the theatre of screams in excited anticipation of a thrilling match against one of the few teams that got the better of us last year.
And...we were only on the blooming main pitch! The very pitch that the mighty Legends of yesteryear had once played on at the very top level! if the ghosts of messrs Bidgood, Boobyer and Ferris couldn’t  inspire the green clad wonders nothing ever would....

First half:  Cae 31-0 Whiteheads

This was an incredible start to the season. Whiteheads were excellent for the first ten minutes, launching attack after attack, and Cae were forced into the sort of rearguard action not seen since Cardiff City played Real Madrid away in the cup winners cup.
Bang! Out of nowhere, the crowd in the grandstand were brought to their feet by the sort of sublime skill you just don’t expect from a 12yr old. Little Ry, after a lovely outside break was about to be shoved into touch and surely had nowhere to go....but...now he’s added to his already considerable repertoire the outside of his foot kick... the ball curled back into play and his pal Tommy Lewis was there to touch it down...brilliant!
Once again Whiteheads dominated the next five minutes and Cae were on their line defending as if their lives depended on it. Finally, the forwards snatched a turnover and Tom Lewis was away, jinking up field before releasing Jet heeled Tommy Evans who left defenders grasping thin air as he put the afterburners on to go over from half way.
The Whiteheads players were scratching their heads under the post, how can they be playing so well and losing by two tries.
Confidence was high now and the genuine Bonnie Prince, our own Charlie, showed he was no pretender by galloping through the entire opposition team, five of them after he’d crossed the try line to get under the posts, this one was converted by Tommy Lewis.
Next up Ross, who had a stunning game, he picked up a bouncing ball in his own half and took off, he beat the few defenders who dared risk trying to tackle him at full pace and then outpaced everyone else, indeed it was only our own flying winger Kai, who was anywhere near him when he touched down for an incredible try. Tom notched the conversion from tight to the sideline with no more concern than he might show if he brushed some dust off his shoulder...31-0 and the loud hooter signals half time, sensational stuff!

Second half:  Cae 38-5 Whiteheads

The second half was a much tighter affair, Whiteheads are a very good team and were never going to go down without a fight.
Cae conceded their first try in four games today, getting caught cold from the kick off, I’m sure the coaches will emphasise the importance of never switching off in our next training session.
Whiteheads were on top for the next ten minutes and kept Cae on the back foot, but as usual, one mistake and we were in. Little Ry spotted a gap and flew through it, beating a few defenders and going under the posts. Ross kicked the conversion to finish the scoring for the day.

Man of the Match
Was Ross, who was everywhere today, tackling like a demon and making massive ground with ball in hand, capping it all off with a stunning try.  When asked what he put his brilliant performance down to, he replied “I wanted to help the boys keep their winning run going on from last week, oh and I’m on a win bonus from my Dad!’
if him and the rest of the boys keep playing like this, there might be a few bonuses handed out this year..onwards and upwards for the mid size green army!
