Abercwmboi and flinch as Cae launch a Jack attack

Abercwmboi and flinch as Cae launch a Jack attack!

Abercwmboi 0-43 Cae

Our second trip to Abercwmboi in a matter of weeks, the locals looked delighted to see Charlie again so soon after his five try performance at the end of November...
It’s possibly an old wives tale but I’ve heard that naughty children in Abercwmboi these days are threatened with “Cae under 13s will get you” when they misbehave....

The boys had been taught a rugby lesson at home to Merthyr last week, it would be important to bounce back from that heavy defeat and produce a strong performance today.

Special mention to our injured player Ross the boss,  it showed the character of the lad that he turned up to support his pals today even though he wasn’t playing. Get well soon mate!

First half:  Abercwmboi 0-17 Cae

Abercwmboi were missing their star fly half today and without his bit of magic they struggled to find a way past our pressing defence game, whereas Cae had a team full of members of the magic circle this morning.

Aside from needing a little bit more work on our lineout, the boys were technically superb today, dominating all aspects of the game.

The first try was scored by Jack E who had a great game today, strong running and aggressive in defence, he dived over after prolonged pressure on the opposition line.

We dominated the whole half and left a few tries out their by being a tad over elaborate some times and not getting the ball to the wing quickly enough on other occasions, with the odd knock on thrown in.

Eventually we notched a deserved second try when the ball went through the hands to Henry who ran in strongly to score. Tom L converted.

The third and final try of the half was scored (of course) by that source of Abercwmboi nightmares, Charlie, who galloped over to get his first of the game.

Second half: Abercwmboi 0-43 Cae

Aber competed well this half and apart from us scoring whenever we had the ball the game was even, on another day they could have scored a couple of tries of their own, but we defended very well throughout.

Little Ry scored one of his hot-stepping masterpieces to get our first try this half after great work from Cam, who also excelled today,  he seemed to dodge and spin so often that it was like he was auditioning for a stage production of “Singing in the rain” as numerous hapless defenders tried desperately to get hold of him before he eventually got bored and touched the ball down.

Charlie got his second strolling through a tired defence as if he was Gulliver taking a casual walk through downtown Lilliput. Tom converted.

Tom scored the next try with an outrageous dummy, he had the whole defence looking the wrong way as if hypnotised and like a modern day Houdini appeared over their line to touch the ball down before they had realised what happened. Tom converted.

Tom was superb today, our best attacker and our best defender, stopping opposing attacks time after time with perfectly executed tackles.

The Bonnie Prince bid a final au revoir to Abercwmboi with his third try today and his eighth of the season against them to end the try scoring. Tom converted.

Man of the Match was Jack E for a fantastic all round performance both in attack and defence rounded off with a well taken try.  Keep up the great work Jack!

Onwards and upwards for the green army
