2019-2020 Youth Management Team

Caerphilly RFC are pleased to announce former player Grant Pritchard as Head Coach of Caerphilly Youth for the 2019/20 Season. Grant stepped in last season to support the club as an interim measure but has forged some strong links with the youth squad and has decided to continue for the 2019/20 Season. Grant will be heading up the team delivering the support required for an aspiring set of players here at Caerphilly. Supporting Grant this season will be Rhys Cleverly, stepping into the role as forwards coach. Rhys is an experienced Caerphilly born player having played for numerous Championship and Premiership clubs throughout his career. In addition to Rhys, Jason Lewis will be transitioning from his current role as head coach of Caerphilly RFC U16s where he has enjoyed the past nine years. Jason also brings a wealth of playing experience having played a significant amount of rugby for Abercwmboi RFC, LLanishen RFC and more recently at Caerphilly RFC. Both Julie Elworthy and Andrew Brooks will also transition from the U16s to the youth management team in preparation for next season. Andrew will deliver video analysis and assist with various aspects of coaching, whilst Julie will bring her significant managerial experience to the team.

The club also thanks the outgoing team of Lee Howells (forwards coach), Mike Prew (Team Manager), Richard Praill (Match day Support) and Anthony Silcox (Match day Support) for their considerable support and dedication to the youth set up throughout the 2018/19 season. We are pleased that both Mike and Anthony are continuing in other roles as volunteers within the club and wish Lee and Richard all the success in the future.

Chairman Gareth Ashman commented: - We are delighted to announce the youth team set up for the 2019/20 season. This team of volunteers will compliment Jared Lougher’s recent appointment and support his vision as Director of Rugby at Caerphilly RFC. Grant and his team will bring a wealth of experience to the squad, supporting each and every player to develop to their full potential. The pathway to senior rugby at Caerphilly Rugby Football Club is in safe and knowledgeable hands, with Grant having transitioned himself from youth to senior rugby at Caerphilly RFC. In his role, Grant and the team will continue to develop the next generation of players through the already successful pathway at the club. Exciting times for us all at Caerphilly RFC.

Pritchard commented: - I am really excited about my appointment as Head Coach of the Youth at Caerphilly RFC and taking up this new role where I have also coached the Mini and juniors for the past five years. This role brings a new and exciting challenge for me personally and is a great opportunity for us all.  I look forward to working with my team, the club and Jared to develop the players of the future, ensuring the continued success of the excellent development pathway at the club. I am personally proud to be part of such a professional community club.
