Lewis is Mr Muscle but  Cae are taken to the Pontycleaners!

Pontyclun 26-5 Cae

We’ve had a great rivalry with the badgers (Pontyclun rugby, not the little St John volunteers) over the years, they always provide a huge test for us...in fact this is the third time we’ve play a team starting Ponty this season and  every game has been difficult.

I’m pleased to say that Pontypandy don’t have a team this season, which at least spares us all from having a gloating Fireman Sam ruffling our hair or Elvis Cridlington gyrating his hips and waving his fire hose over a post match bovril.....

First half: Ponty 26-0 Cae

We really wanted to start fast this half: get the basics right, have a strong set piece, tackle well, be on the mark with our passing etc etc.

Urm....

Pontyclun completely dominated every aspect of the game and thoroughly deserved their huge half time lead, they were everything we wanted to be and certainly something for us to aspire to.

Second half: Pontyclun 26-5 Cae

If the coaches have recorded what they said at half time and can play that tape before kick off next week then we will be in for a treat.

The turnaround was a sporting sensation, as bad as we were in the first half we were as good in this one.  The boys tackled everything they saw in black and white, knocking back their opponents.

When we had the ball, we were purposeful and direct.

Big Lew was extremely fired up, rallying the troops at every opportunity and making the hard yards up front .

Charlie made a great run before knocking on just before their line....from the scrum Liam tackled their scrum half  back over their line with so much venom that I can only guess, that to cause such an unusual reaction, the opposing player had threatened to shut off the WiFi in the Caerphilly area for the Christmas period.

With the ball taken back we now had the scrum in our favour. Jayden ensured quick ball came back and Ross the Boss went over to score.

We continued to play well but this was a strong home team and we couldn’t breach their defence again and stalemate ensued as we repelled their best efforts.

Man of the Match

Was Big Lew who showed great leadership skills to rally the troops when they were at a low ebb and played with real verve and passion. When asked what he put his fine performance down to, he replied “I said to the lads that if Tyson Fury could get up from a punch like that then we could surely respond to a first half like that, after all, it ain’t how hard you can hit in life that counts, it’s how hard you can get hit but still get up that counts, that’s how winning is Done!”

Strange, I can’t help feeling I’ve heard that before somewhere....onwards and upwards
