Action Jackson smacks ‘em!

Action Jackson smacks ‘em!

Abercwmboi 14-49 Cae

Our third trip to the “village”, always a favourite journey for green clad travellers, thanks to the delicious bacon butties and “summertime only” beers on the first floor balcony.

The boys have been showing improved form over the last few weeks and everyone was keen to see this upward curve continue.

Great to see our injured fly half “Titanium Tommy” looking better and on the sidelines to support his pals, that’s dedication for you!

First half: abercwmboi 7-21 Cae

Abercwmboi started this half like Irishmen in search of rugby World Cup final tickets....they poured forward, recycling the ball beautifully and eventually going over for the first score, which was converted.

This wasn’t the start we expected, nervous glances were exchanged amongst the Caerphilly fans in the middle tier of the grandstand and the game was certainly afoot!

How would the boys react to an early setback? We’d soon find out....

Now, if national selectors were called upon to form a Wales under 13 rugby team, there is little doubt that at number 8, the name would say: B Prince-Charlie, Caerphilly.

Charlie was simply immense today, running hard like a buffalo on the plains of North America in the 1850s.  He crashed through, beating five or six players (the ones brave enough to go near him) and scored our first under the posts...Ross converted.

Our second try was a beauty, created by a magic “sonny bill” offload from Big Lew and ended by a fantastic strong run from Henry to put us ahead. Ross converted.

We were on top now, dominating in the scrum and winning everything in the loose, almost inevitably we scored again and just as inevitably, it was Charlie who scored, crashing over from close range. Ross converted.

Second Half: Abercwmboi 14-49 Cae

Charlie was as close to unplayable as a boy could be this half and scored three tries,  the first two were similar, in that he scored after picking the ball up in his own half before then beating anyone in his path and galloping away to score. Both converted by Ross.

Cae played really well this half and this was up against an abercwmboi team with a lot of talented players, their fly half was outstanding and on another day (a day when he doesn’t play against little Ry) he’d have beaten the full back and scored a few tries.

Kody secured a couple of valuable turnovers to disrupt the opposition and Tommy Evans went on some lovely arcing runs...only a foot in touch denying him a well deserved try.

A real stand out this half was our lightening quick speedster, Kai, he was a constant threat with his pace and terrorised the Aber defence with a superb demonstration of the wingers art, whilst also yielding to no man in defence, popping up everywhere.

Charlie’s third try this half and fifth of the match (record books show that this five try bonanza has only been bettered in our history by little Ry’s seven tries against New Tredegar back in September, 2012) rounded off a brilliant game for him. He scored after prolonged possession on the oppositions line.

Abercwmboi never stopped trying and scored a great try in the corner after we slipped off a couple of tackles.

We saved our best try to last, a superb move, which went through more hands than a pass the parcel contest ended with Henry notching his second try of the day, he’s a great finisher, powerful and direct, he always takes a lot of stopping. Ross converted.

Special mention for Ross, who converted every single one of our seven tries, not many props have that skill in their repertoire...well played young man!

Man of the Match

Was Kai, for a fantastic performance, his pace and dancing feet were too hot to handle and too cold to hold for the  Abercwmboi defence, he always beat the first defender and created mayhem every time he had the ball.

When asked what he put his fine performance down to, he replied: “Gerald Davies, Shane Williams, George North, Kai Jackson...don’t the names just flow off the tongue?”

Wise words indeed, onwards and upwards
