Bedwas RFC - Final Score - Bedwas 0 Caerphilly 24

Another gloriously sunny and crisp Sunday greeted both teams at Bedwas RFC this morning.

The game was a highly entertaining encounter and from the first five minutes it was clear that Caerphilly would need to tackle well and play as a unit to equal the strong play of the home team.

Good tackling from Cian O'Sullivan on the wing kept the game all square in the opening exchanges and eventually some outstanding and determined play at the breakdown saw Logan Turner win a penalty at the breakdown to relieve the pressure.

Strong play at the breakdown undoubtedly laid the foundations for the team's win today with Ioan Hill ripping the ball, releasing Scott Pritchard and then Connor Mayo to make some good territorial gains during the first quarter.

The game continued to ebb and flow, and eventually a high relieving kick was taken in the air securely by Owen Hughes who ran at pace to release Louis Bellamy; but alas it wasn't to be with play called back.

Bedwas then made some good progress back into the visitors' half but another outstanding turnover this time by Eli Weekes saved a certain try!

Eventually, a dropped ball at the line out by the home team created pressure for a great interception by Scott Pritchard to run in a try from half way for the first score of the match.

The game continued with strong contributions across the team with Sam Davies putting in a hard tackle to thwart the straight running of Bedwas. Callum Morris also put in some great tackles at key moments. The determination of the team was exemplified by Lewis Adams who jumped high into the air to stop a penalty kick reaching touch which enabled the boys to make a strong counterattack.

Half Time - 0 - 5

The second half started in the same vein with an outstanding tackle from Wil Lewis and support at the breakdown winning a penalty for the Cheesemen after a few minutes of play.

The second score of the match came from a high kick from Bedwas deftly fielded by Ellis Hughes. Strong support and running from Abieshek sucked in the Bedwas defence to create space out wide for Louis Bellamy to score a great team try.

This score seemed to provide added confidence to the visitors and a scrum against the head saw Louis Bellamy taking the ball up, with outstanding support at the breakdown again enabling Scott Pritchard to pick up and score Caer's 3rd try. The theme of crisp passing and team interplay between backs and forwards eventually saw Ellis Hughes touch down for the final score.

Well done to the boys, a true team effort and a very entertaining and hard-fought victory against a good Bedwas team. It was particularly pleasing to see the outstanding tackling on the Caer line with 5 minutes to go, such was the determination of the team. #togetherasone
