Caerphilly U13's bounced back to winning ways this morning, with a convincing 49-14 victory over local rivals Senghenydd.
The Team were battered and bruised from their disheartening defeat to a big and physical Pontypridd side last weekend. Perhaps the best medicine for the boys was to put them straight back on the field and let them release some frustration against today's opponents.
The 'Green Army' didn't disappoint and got off to a flyer, running in four un-answered tries in the first 15mins. Saints didn't know what had hit them as Caerphilly dominated the opening exchanges upfront, and their backs had no answer to the running rugby delivered from all over the park.
This is probably the fixture both teams look forward to the most each season and there was no way Senghennyd were going to roll over and lie down. It must have been an inspirational half-time team talk as the Blue 'N' Reds came back a much stronger outfit in the second half, racing in two very well work tries of their own. The battle was back on and this was certainly living up to the typical hype surrounding a 'Local Derby' contest, it was game on!
Caerphilly managed the game superbly in the last quarter and worked hard to break Saints down to create another three chances, the opportunities were taken and victory was secured. An excellent performance from both sets of players, it was a spectacle which certainly lived upto it's billing.
Well done boys, we look forward to the return fixture later in the year...I'm sure the Caerphilly boys will enjoy the bragging rights in school for now.
